James Frey (no, not the author – different guy) established Trisaetum in the Ribbon Ridge AVA in 2003. The name is a mashup of the names of his two children: Tristan and Tatum. Today, some 15+ years later, James’ empire has grown to 3 estate vineyards: the original Ribbon Ridge Estate, another in the hills outside of McMinnville he calls the “Coast Range Estate” and a 3rd in the Dundee Hills called Wichmann.
The Wichmann is typically the lightest and most elegant of the 3, however in 2012 the richness and power of the vintage took precedence. That being said, the wine here is still incredibly elegant and mind-bogglingly complex. Bright red cherry fruit prevails with rich mineral undertones.
