Reynvaan is a small, family-owned label based in Walla Walla that specializes in Estate-grown Rhone and Bordeaux varietal wines.
Since being founded in 2007, winemaker Matt Reynvaan has racked up an impressive résumé of accolades and big scores.
The Contender Syrah started as an experimental wine with the idea to blend in and co-ferment with a small percentage of MArsanne – an aromatic southern-Rhone white wine varietal. The Marsanne gives the Contender a floral lift to balance out the masculine, peppery power it holds at its core.
From International Wine Report:
The 2015 ‘The Contender’ Syrah is co-fermented with a small amount (4%) of Marsanne. The result is a stunning wine with inviting savory aromatics of bacon fat, cigar box, black olive tapenade and hints of blood orange tied together with dark red fruits. This possesses a lovely textural richness, with a wonderful combination of savory and mineral characteristics unfolding with flavors of bacon fat, cigar box, smoked meats and blood orange underlined by gorgeous streaks of salinity, which all persist through the long finish. Delicious now, but expect this to evolve beautifully over the next decade. (Best 2017-2027) 94 points
