J. Christopher Winery was founded in 1996 by winemaker Jay Somers after his extended stint as assistant winemaker at the legendary Cameron winery.
The house style here is unique: there is this unexplainable juxtaposition between color and weight. On one hand, the wines are extremely transparent and lightly colored. On the other hand, the wines are massive on aromatic and flavor concentration. I honestly do not know how this is achieved. It’s a house secret at J. Christopher!
The “Appassionata” bottling is a project where Jay teams up with his buddy Ernst Loosen (of Dr. Loosen fame) and picks a few top barrels from the vintage and then holds them back for a much later release.
In that way, 2008 is the current release (as of 2018) and is here to showcase the magic that happens when a quality structured Pinot ages to perfection.
