Jackson Holstein is a second generation winemaker in the Dundee Hills, using fruit from the Holstein Vineyard – his family’s premium old-vine vineyard which was planted starting in 1983. This is the property that Jackson literally grew up on, and he carries on his family’s tradition in the wine industry with this stunner of a wine. The reserve was a hand selection of the 3 best barrels of the vintage from 100% estate fruit. The barrels were selected for their exceptional fruit, intense flavor, complex aromas, and bold structure. The result is a voluptuous and hedonistic Pinot which will please red wine lovers of all sorts. I’ve even seen a few “Cabernet-only” drinkers convinced by this robust Pinot Noir, and yet Burgundy lovers will appreciate its flawless balance and supple tannins.
The attractive packaging is more than just a façade. It speaks to the stature and rarity of the juice contained within. I have personally cellared this wine for one year before release because I felt it needed it. It’s drinking much better now, but will definitely improve with a little more patience. I would say ideal window will be 2022-2028.
