Founded in 1974, Elk Cove is one of the Oregon Wine Industry’s “founding fathers.”
For this reason, Elk Cove has the advantage of working with some of the oldest, most historic and most established vineyards in the Valley. The wines are made in a rustic “Old Oregon” style which is a methodology focused on purity of fruit, acid retention, good structure, and thus great aging potential.
Only in exceptional years, winemaker Adam Campbell will choose the 8 best barrels of the vintage from only the best sections of the best vineyard sites and blend them into this cuvée. There is a higher percentage of new oak on this wine, but always from the tightest-grained wood, so as to not overwhelm the juice with the essence of oak, but rather impart structure and spice.
This bottle is a true Oregon classic and very much a collectible item. It will appreciate in value – but more importantly it will improve in the bottle. This is the kind of wine you would want to reach for if you were interested in cellaring something from Oregon for 20+ years. Easily. However, it is drinking perfectly wonderful right now and will really unfold into something fantastic over the course of the next 4 to 7 years.
