Description
For over 20 years, the Betz family has been making some of Washington’s most coveted and sought-after wines. The secret to their success has been an uncompromising commitment to the philosophy that great wine is made in the vineyard. They will source from only the most very best vineyard sites employing only the most quality-driven farming practices.
This selection is the “Clos de Betz.” (a play on words which gives a nod to the Clos de Beze – one of the most famous Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy)
It is a “right-Bank” style Bordeaux blend which means it is majority Merlot. Specifically, the blend is 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot. The Merlot sets the tone with its silky, supple texture and jammy fruit. The Cabernet adds a little herbaceousness and tobacco/cedar/cigar box notes. The Petite Verdot adds the astringency and structure. Together, they create a harmonious ensemble which sings together. As one would expect from a Bordeaux Blend, this wine is stout, structured, and bold with notes of black currant, cocoa powder, and moist humus, and even an interesting shade of tomato leaf. The finish is long and plummy and leaves the palate prickling with a peppery spice. This is your steak wine right here! Drink now through 2025. 94 pts. – Wine Advocate
