Alexana Winery was founded in 2005 by Dr. Madaiah Revana in the Northwestern corner of the Dundee Hills. It’s one of 3 wineries that Dr. Revana owns – the other two being in Napa and Argentina. The house style here is decidedly big, rich, and hedonistic. Heavily extracted juice meets an aggressive barrel program that results in wines of great depth and structure with plenty of jammy dark fruit notes and heady barrel spice components.
The “Signature” Pinot Noir is a 100% Estate bottling from their Revana Vineyard. More specifically, it is a block-designate, sourced from only the oldest plantings on the site. It is considered the “highest tier” wine of their lineup, and the layers of complexity speak to that in volumes.
Blue and black fruits mingle with cedar box and spice rack. The supple but lively mouthfeel means it could stand alone as a sipper, or compliment a meal nicely. This is a great bridge wine for palates attuned to Cabernet making their first foray into Oregon Pinots, but well-versed enthusiasts will also appreciate its balance and power.
