Description
Alexana Winery was founded in 2005 by Dr. Madaiah Revana in the Northwestern corner of the Dundee Hills. It’s one of 3 wineries that Dr. Revana owns – the other two being in Napa and Argentina. The house style here is decidedly big, rich, and hedonistic. Heavily extracted juice meets an aggressive barrel program that results in wines of great depth and structure with plenty of jammy dark fruit notes and heady barrel spice components.
The “Estate Pommard Clone” Pinot Noir is a 100% Estate bottling from their Revana Vineyard, selcting fruit from only those rows planted to the Pommard Clone of Pinot Noir.
The Pommard Clone is one of the original and most revered clones of Pinot in Oregon. Usually, clones are blended to make a complex and varied wine but in this case the wine is intended to showcase the purity of the Pommard Clone, which – truth be told – is plenty complex and complete unto itself.
From the Winery:
We triple hand-sort the fruit, utilize native yeasts for fermentation and barrel age in a small percentage of New French Oak for a total of 10 months.
Nose | blackberry, nutmeg, leather
Palate | vibrant & rich with a silky finish.
From Wine Enthusiast:
Pommard clone wines are generally fruit-forward, as shown here, with a pleasing array of red and blue berries and fruit. Tangy acids prop up the focused core and lead into a tight finish dotted with baking spices. 90 pts.
